He graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and received a Master’s degree from Auburn University. He is a former Navy Pilot who served in leadership roles including Commander of a carrier-based jet squadron, and base commander. Upon leaving the Navy, Rich joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and became Director of Human Resource Information Systems. He was project leader for the purchase and implementation of PeopleSoft human resources/payroll management system, a 9 million dollar project, leading a team of 30 staff.

Rich later returned to Texas and joined the University of Texas at Austin as a Director of Human Resources. The department provides all Human Resource services to over 19,000 employees across multiple colleges and administrative departments.

Rich subsequently took a position in the University as Associate Athletics Director for the Texas Longhorns.  This was a leadership role involving high visibility, and sensitive management issues including the transition of a new Athletics Director and Football Coach.

 

He is a member of Society for Human Resource Management, Coastal Bend (Corpus Christi) Human Resources Association and serves as volunteer at Driscoll Children's Hospital.

Rich Burns is a former Navy jet pilot with leadership experience including command of Pensacola Naval Air Station. He has an extensive background leading high performing teams in both the public and private sectors. He has won numerous awards for achieving excellent results and he has used that experience to help people and organizations advance to meet their potential.

During his career in the public and private sectors, Rich has coached and trained hundreds of managers/senior executives in the areas of leadership and organizational excellence with a focus on communications. His areas of expertise includes coaching, leadership development, and conversational intelligence (C-IQ).
